When severe storms and a derecho moved through Northern Indiana last month, they left a lasting impact on communities across the region, including Tarpstop’s Gary Service Center. The location was without power and unable to operate normally for two weeks. But the challenges didn’t keep the Gary team from showing up.
Not a single employee called off during this difficult stretch. Everyone would have understood if someone needed to stay home, but the entire team continued to show up, support one another and do what they could each day to keep things moving.
“When this team was dealing with the same storm and power issues as everyone else, they continued to show up for each other and our customers,” said Pierre Gibbs, Vice President of Business Development. “What this team did during those two weeks says a lot about who they are. We couldn’t be more proud of them.”

When a generator was secured, the team was able to resume operations and get back to doing what they do best: taking care of customers.
For a service center that works with drivers and fleets throughout the region, getting back to work wasn’t just about reopening the doors. It meant getting customers back on the road.
Their commitment did not go unnoticed.
The Hammer Award is presented each month to Tarpstop employees who have gone above and beyond during the previous month, and there was little question that the Gary team had earned this month’s recognition.
The Gary Service Center team was named the recipient of this month’s Hammer Award in recognition of the dedication and perseverance they showed throughout the storm and its aftermath.
We’re proud of our Gary crew and grateful for the dedication they showed to their customers, their community and each other. They faced a difficult situation, kept showing up and found a way forward together.
That’s more than going to work. That’s being Tarpstop Tough.
