  2. When to Upgrade Your System

Sometimes it's tough to know when it's time to make the investment into yourself and get a tarping system that is designed to help you make more money. With so many new truckers coming onto the scene there are so many questions they may ask themselves but this one is a common one. We would like to help with some of the questions that circle that topic.

Throw tarping can be an exhaustive and time consuming process. You may find that you are starting to turn down one or two loads because of the time it might take covering, uncovering and tying everything down. This time could have been saved by simply rolling your whole system open and latching down your haul. This is a common issue for drivers and one of the best indicators that you are ready to start earning more.

One of the biggest fears any driver faces is 'downtime'. When a driver isn't running, they are not making money. This can be remedied by addressing two things:
1.)  How is the service with your provider?
2.)  Does not having a tarping system keep you from hauling more?

Although the latter question can only be answered by each driver, here at Tarpstop we pride ourselves on having some of the best service in the industry, while keeping our customers on the road so they can make money.

Looking to learn more about our Tarping System or our service partners? Don't hesitate! Our specialized sales team is here to answer any questions you might have. That is why our motto is 'Running Through Walls'. Call today: 1-877-999-8277

  3. Keep Your System Working in the Winter

When trucking for a living, the winter months can not only be the most dangerous but also be the most hazardous for your tarping system. In order to alleviate any possible issues you might face on the road, we thought we would put together this little list for you to help stretch the life of your tarp during these months.

Ways to Extend Your Tarp Life through the Winter

1.) Keep Snow off the Top
One of the worst things for a system is while driving in the winter, snow can accumulate at the top. To reduce the stress this puts on the system make sure to brush off the snow on the top with a sweeper or anything similar to keep the weight off.
    2.) Proper Tension
When tightening A-Frames, tension one side no more than 1/2 way before you latch and tighten the other side. Once 2nd side is completely tensioned, return to side you started with and tension the rest of the way.
3.) Keep the Track Clean of all Snow and Debris
Although the tarp and bows are important, equally as important are the wheels to the system. By keeping the track clean and not allowing random pieces to get into it, you should get continual ease of use for opening and closing the system.

Remember, although these months can be hazardous to your system they don't have to be. With the proper protection and maintenance your system can be a trusted ally to help you earn more money. Although these are only a few items, below is a downloadable 'Upkeep and Troubleshooting' pdf to help you with any other questions you might have.

  7. Truckers and Presidents Day

Owner-Operators have always been a number of things from risk takers, entrepreneurs to even farmers.  What is not as well known is many of these traits are shared by some of our most beloved presidents as well.

    The History of Presidents Day
Presidents’ Day was established in 1885 to honor George Washington and is still officially called "Washington's Birthday" by the federal government! Celebrated the third Monday in every February, it traditionally is celebrated on February 22 Washington’s actual birthday. The holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present.

Presidents and Truckers....More alike then you Know!
They are always furthering their education: James Madison was Princeton University's first graduate student

They get creative nicknames: Zachary Taylor's nickname was "old rough and ready"

They never shy away from a good drink: Andrew Johnson was reportedly drunk during his Inauguration

They break the law: Ulysses S. Grant received a speeding ticket...on a horse!

They gamble: Warren Harding lost the White House china in a poker game

  10. 5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Tarping System

When selecting a rolling Tarping System the first that comes to mind always is the freight or cargo that your transporting. When making your choice you will need to consider several factors since it could affect the profitability for years to come. Choosing the wrong tarping system can reduce productivity, limit the types of loads you can haul, increase downtime and lead to cargo damage.

    Choose Quality
Inspect tarping systems closely – especially the seams – to see how well they’ve been constructed.

    Any Support?
If you’re a long-haul operator, consider the ease of service while on the road. Can repairs be made by any tarp or trailer shop? How about those covered by warranty; can you get the work done on the road or do you have to return to the manufacturing facility?

    Optimize the System
Some tarping systems impede on the cargo area, reducing payloads. Talk to your supplier about the dimensions of the tarping system and the requirements of the freight you’ll be hauling.

    Extended Life
The maintenance-free tarping system sounds great but with just a little extra inspection for things like loosened connections and damaged rail protectors can easily extend the life of a tarp. Wipe down rails every time, and consider the wheel material as some suppliers have adopted nylon or rubber wheels in place of steel.

    Make it Convenient
Finally, make sure your tarp system is easy to operate. The ease at which drivers can operate the tarping system's can make the difference between them continuing to drive for years to come or not.
